US wireless communications holding company AT&T (NYSE: T | PowerRating) on Thursday launched the U-verse Account manager for its U-Verse TV customers.

The U-verse Account Manager is an on-screen app that gives U-verse customers quick and easy access to make U-verse TV package upgrades, compare TV packages, view channel line-ups, view their account summary, view product overviews and ordering information on U-verse High Speed Internet and U-verse Voice, among other things.

U-verse customers can now instantly add new channels with account manager app. Also, the new on-screen application lets U-verse customers compare and upgrade their channel package directly from their TV screen.

Account Manager is available on channel 9910 and will roll out on a market-by-market basis to all U-verse TV customers at no extra charge, the company said.

The app, available on channel 95, allows customers to watch and vote for nominated shows, see bios of award nominees and view information for fall shows and season premieres on your TV screen.

In addition, for the third straight year, customers can manage their Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football teams right from their U-verse TV with the Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football team and receive customised information on their favourite professional football teams through the AT&T U-bar.

AT&T U-verse TV is a 100% Internet Protocol-based television (IPTV) service.

As a result of a battle between AT&T (News – Alert) and Hallmark, customers of AT&T U-verse may stand to lose Hallmark Channels on Aug. 31.

Already, AT&T U-verse has sent postcards to its customers stating that they may lose the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel if an agreement is not reached.

Currently, negotiations between both the companies are at a standstill, Hallmark has announced in a press release.

Hallmark Channel recently announced a programming deal with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, to provide a daytime lifestyle programming block on the network which is slated to premiere on Sept. 13.

Hallmark ranks second for its family-friendly viewing (Feb. ‘10 Millward Brown Family Friendly TV Evaluation Study) and is among many ad-supported entertainment cable networks.

Company officials have alluded that AT&T U-verse TV recently went through a notable carriage renewal and this latest development is a scare tactic.

Bill Abbott, president and CEO, Hallmark Channel, said, “Hallmark Channel has been a good partner and supporter of AT&T U-verse since they launched their service, and we have been negotiating in good faith with them. We hope AT&T will recognize the extraordinary value of our channels and renew the carriage agreement. Talks are not progressing and it is looking more likely that Hallmark Channels will be dropped from AT&T.”

On Sept. 7, Hallmark Channel will announce a fourth quarter original programming slate that includes 14 Hallmark Channel original movie world premieres.

Recently, AT&T introduced the U-verse Mobile App for the BlackBerry (News – Alert) Torch smartphone, which will help the users to schedule their DVR recordings on the go from their smartphones.

The newly launched application is available only for AT&T customers in AT&T stores and online. It is also the best example of how AT&T delivers more value to U-verse TV customers with continued service enhancements and innovative apps.

Dallas, Texas — Connecting residents to innovative entertainment services through an extensive fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) network development, AT&T* and CJUF II Stratus Block 21 LLC today announced an agreement that will bring AT&T U-verse® TV and U-verse High Speed Internet services to more than 150 condominium units within W Austin Residences in downtown Austin.

Occupying floors 18 through 37 above the W Austin Hotel on “Block 21,” W Austin Residences are located in the heart of the 2nd Street District – Austin’s newest shopping and cultural center, with more than 25,000 square feet of retail stores, restaurants and entertainment venues.

This agreement between AT&T and CJUF II Stratus Block 21 LLC is part of the AT&T Connected Communities® program – a strategic marketing initiative between AT&T and regional or national single-family builders, developers, real estate investment trusts, apartment ownership and management groups, and home owners’ associations to provide next-generation communications and entertainment solutions to residents and homebuyers.

“Through the AT&T Connected Communities deal, we’re adding even more value to these properties for the owners, and we’re really setting a precedent for technological progress in the area,” said Beau Armstrong, chief executive officer of Stratus Properties, the project developer. “We’re proud to work with AT&T to bring these state-of-the-art services to our residents.”

U-verse TV customers can enjoy numerous benefits, including the ability to watch and manage recordings from a single DVR on any connected TV in the home with U-verse Total Home DVR; the ability to choose and watch up to four of your favorite channels at one time with the exclusive My Multiview app; an extensive High Definition (HD) channel lineup with access to 130 HD channels; the ability to program DVR recordings from their Web-connected mobile phone or PC; personalized, on-screen weather, sports, traffic and stock information via AT&T U-bar; and more.

AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet offers faster available speeds. All U-verse Internet customers receive a wireless access point with their installation, so W Austin residents will be able to connect Wi-Fi enabled devices to their home broadband connection. Wi-Fi provides consistently fast speeds for accessing the Internet on smartphones and other devices, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t count against AT&T customers’ monthly mobile data plans. Information on available packages can be found online at: www.att.com/u-verse.

At the AT&T retail store located at 1011 W. 5th Street in Austin, W Austin residents will also have access to a full suite of AT&T wireline and wireless products.

Starting today, AT&T has launched the U-Verse application for the BlackBerry Torch, a service we’ve only seen accessible to iPhone customers until now. The application essentially allows existing U-Verse customers to schedule DVR recordings from the BlackBerry Torch, and even download/watch many television shows right from their handset. The introduction of U-Verse Mobile is a continuation of AT&T’s strategy to “Mobilize Everything”, and is definitely a step forward in integrating handheld devices into other technologies we use every day.

So here’s how it works:

    * All existing AT&T customers who subscribe to U-Verse for their digital cable needs are able to download and use the application to schedule DVR recordings.
* Customers that subscribe to the U-Verse U300 package or higher get access to select content to download and watch
* While the content available is currently limited to the most popular TV shows and stations, it’s expanding on a continuous basis.
* BlackBerry Torch owners/AT&T U-Verse customers can download the application in BlackBerry App World. starting today.

AT&T has released an iPhone application that makes it possible to use the Apple smartphone to download and watch TV shows through the carrier’s U-verse service. AT&T said the U-verse mobile app was available on Apple’s App Store as of Monday. Along with remote access to TV shows, the app makes the iPhone function as a remote control for the U-verse digital video recorder. iPhone users who are also U-verse subscribers can download TV episodes over a Wi-Fi connection, but not AT&T’s 3G wireless network. Once downloaded, shows can be watched anytime. AT&T is the exclusive service provider for the iPhone in the United States.

Along with watching programming, iPhone users can use the handset to browse the U-verse TV program guide, view program descriptions and schedule and manage DVR recordings. The ability to download TV episodes is available only to subscribers of the U-verse U300 package or higher. AT&T did not list the TV shows available for download, saying only it would offer episodes from “several popular networks.” The carrier said it planned to add content on an ongoing basis.

The mobile service is available at no additional charge, and the application is free. Before the iPhone app, U-verse subscribers could watch TV shows on their personal computers, as well as their Internet-enabled TVs.

“Our U-verse multi-screen promise is now a reality for millions of U-verse TV customers, with content available on U-verse TV, U-verse Online, and today, U-verse Mobile,” David Christopher, chief marketing officer at AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, said in a statement.

AT&T’s latest announcement followed several days after rival Dish Network released an application for Apple’s iPad that turns the tablet-style computer into a full-feature remote with access to all functions and features on the DVR distributed by the satellite TV provider. Dish also offers through the App Store a similar iPhone application.

AT&T has yet to release a mobile app for the iPad, which uses the same operating system as the iPhone.

Review from new user :

I just got AT & T uverse installed in my house and here is what I think of the installation. Well first of all I have to admit that the installer is very helpful and pleasant and when he arrived, he checked the outside line and then check my cable set, which persuaded the TV 3. So he looked it over, he said that he had to put a new jack in the basement and after 2 and half hours he was done and make sure all the TV I’ve got a signal and they are.

As for the TV service, elementary school, I loved it but I realize that sports channels like the NFL network and ESPN a few channels not as strong in terms of picture quality than other channels, I’m willing to bet that this has to do with certain channels and not uverse. I like watching movies on TCM a lot of channels and picture quality is really clear compared to what Charter Cable and just looks amazing. Guide and menu Charter Cable has overcome great time as well as picture in picture, plus on demand channels do not need long to load just to browse the titles available. Channel switching is as advertised, very fast.

The DVR is a nice bonus and a free selection of the demand may be less than what the charter cable but not much. Sleuth and Chiller channels not available with the Charter but I got it with a cool uverse. All in all I was surprised at how quickly needed for installation will be completed and how it is installed smoothly, so far there are no interruptions at all.

below is some questions from new u-verse user from forum :
uverse
1. I know that everything is basically run the main recipient (will be in the living room) but what about the other receivers to talk to it? I do not have in my room just CAT5e persuade. I have to run CAT5e? (MAJOR cultivated as everything is finished)

2. I have a great home theater set up. I have read that the U-Verse NOT supports Dolby Digital 5.1? Is that true?

3. Is there a way to watch your U-verse on a PC connected to the router through the software? Then I do not need a receiver-3.

4. I read that some of the newer install is not FTTH FTTP is this true? How do I know? Women in sales does not know.

5. I like to download movies to iPhone, etc. MUCH I pixellate bandwidth of HD TV’s? If I get the internet package better if bandwidth is not only the internet, but to the recipients so that they will not pixellate?

Answer:

1. U-verse IPTV package can be transported from the U-verse Residential Gateway (RG) to U-Verse DVR or non-DVR set-top boxes (STBs) through Cat5e or through persuasion. If you’ve persuaded available at your location requires U-verse STB, there is no longer needed.

2. U-Verse does not support Dolby Digital 5.1. This is available on the optical TOSLINK output on the back of the DVR / STB, and via HDMI. To activate it, you need to go to the menu and switch the audio from Stereo to Surround. 5.1 is only available on HD channels (and depending on the program, of course) – 2.0 SD channels are audio only. There are some people who experience audio dropouts when using the short 1/2-second Dolby Digital 5.1, but the others do not. This seems a bit depending on the type of audio receiver is used. AT & T is currently working on this issue.

3. There is no software available that will allow you to watch TV on your PC. To watch TV on your PC, you need a U-Verse DVR / STB receiver, and a video capture card.

4. 90% of U-verse installation of fiber to the node (FTTN), where the fiber comes to the big cabinet adjacent to the neighborhood (this is called VRAD cabinets), and their relationship to the house of a copper cable. A small number of U-verse installation in the new environment is the fiber to the location (FTTP), in which the fiber ends in addition to your home. FTTP installations that do not have the additional feature of FTTN installations – they both provide the same services. There is no way for sales teams at AT & T to find out what type of installation you will get – just a line technician will know that once they get to your house and assess the situation.

5. Internet downloading will not interfere with the TV. U-verse IPTV system QOS make decisions about IP traffic and giving priority to different services. VOIP> IPTV> Internet. Thus, in terms of bandwidth problem, slow internet speeds to make room for VOIP and IPTV have enough bandwidth for uninterrupted traffic.
