Bell, the Canadian telecommunications operator and is owned by BCE Inc., today announced a new initiative designed to support broadband investment strategy, including the deployment of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) in Quebec City and the new housing developments in Ontario and Quebec.
The company also will launch an enhanced Internet FIBE Bell
series, and will introduce Bell IPTV service later in the year 2010.
FTTH deployments across the Quebec City region, including ancienne-Lorette, Beauport, Charlesbourg, Levis-Wolfe, Loretteville, St-Cyrille, Ste-Foy, St-Nicolas, St-Real and St-Romuald will offer consumers and business customers Internet speeds downloading at least 100 megabits per second and upload speeds of at least 20 Mbps
. Since the Quebec City region is served by most of the land above the cables on poles, the spread of these fibers can be achieved more quickly and more economically than in the center with an underground infrastructure.
Bell also announced today, will deploy all the new FTTH in urban and suburban housing development in Ontario and Quebec began in the second half of 2010. This is in addition to the spread of the company Fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) is running, which will provide 60 Mbps service for about 1,600 condo and apartment buildings in Ontario and Quebec at the end of 2012.
New FIBE Bell Internet services

Bell IPTV is supported by the Microsoft Mediaroom platform and multimedia software are expected to deliver a variety of television and entertainment services over fiber networks to customers in Bell, Toronto and Montreal this year.
